Post-game: Nik Moser

ISU senior strong safety Nik Moser talks about getting a win over Iowa in his final Cy-Hawk go-around.

On getting the Cy-Hawk trophy back:

Moser: We hadn't had it the last couple of years and the last time playing Iowa [for me]. It's huge to get that win knowing we're going to have that trophy back in Ames.

What does it say about this team to get the win?

Moser: It's the same Iowa State team we've always had here in the past.  No one except us and some of our fans expected us to win this game. Everybody on the outside was saying No. 8 Iowa, what are you going to do? We took that and we just ran with it. It was something we wanted to do. We wanted to prove a point and we did.

Did Coach Mac say anything after the game? It's his first win over a top 10 team.

Moser: Honestly I didn't even know that. I don't know if he knows that. They were ranked in the top 10 and we weren't ranked at all; it was huge to come up with a win over Iowa.

Talk about the celebration.

Moser: This is the sweetest one. I don't know how many times I looked over to the sidelines. I saw Mike Banks, I saw Erik Anderson, I saw Luke Vander Sanden. I saw all former Cyclones and for us. To win with them there, what was huge. This is by far the biggest win we've had over Iowa and the greatest celebration.

Is this the best defense you've been a part of?

Moser: Any time you give up three points to the No. 8 team in the country that's a pretty good day defensively, so I think it's probably one of the better games we've played.

Were you feeling pretty good about yourself with Drew Tate in the locker room?

Moser: Honesty I didn't know if he was going to come back. He made a mistake and Greedy made him capitalize on it. He's a competitor, he tried to go take out Steve Paris and Steve delivered a little bit of a blow I think. We knew he was a competitive player.
