First-year head coach Christy Johnson knows the challenge ahead and looks forward to Big 12 play starting.
"There are so many great teams in the Big 12," said Johnson. "I am happy to be in such a great conference. We know that every match will be tough and every match will be very important for us."
ISU enters the match after a tough weekend at the Results Advertising Missouri State Classic, which saw it drop matches to Arkansas (0-3), Missouri State (1-3) and Utah (1-3). The Cyclones took the first game against both Missouri State and Utah but were unable to fend off the opponents.
Erin Boeve led the Cyclones after posting 32 kills and 14 blocks on the weekend. Boeve was named to the all-tournament team as a result of her performance.
Katie Churm enters the conference opener ranked second in the Big 12 in digs per game, averaging 5.06. Churm also leads ISU with nine service aces this season.
The Tigers posted three wins last weekend including a 3-0 sweep of then No. 9-ranked Wisconsin. Missouri also has posted a sweep of Tennessee, who was also ranked No. 9 at the time of their meeting, this season.
"Missouri is one of the best teams in the nation," said Johnson. "They have an exceptional setter in Lindsey Hunter and a very balanced offensive attack."
The Tigers, who hold a 30-26 lead in the all-time series, are led by Hunter. Hunter, a senior, is averaging 15.67 assists and 2.00 digs to pace Missouri. Na Yang leads Missouri at the net, averaging 4.50 kills while Tatum Ailes leads the Tigers with 3.61 digs per game.
