Iowa State (6-5) out blocked No. 10 Missouri (7-0), seven to six, but was unable to overcome the Tigers .327 hitting percentage in the Big 12 season opener at the Hearnes Center in Columbia, Mo. on Wednesday evening. The Cyclones' Jessica Klein had a career-high 11 kills in the 3-0 (20-30, 24-30, 16-30) loss to the Tigers.
The Tigers jumped out to a 10-5
lead but ISU bounced back to tie it at 12-12 after a pair of blocks by Erin
Boeve and Amanda Craig. The Tigers went on a 16-8 run to clinch the first game,
Katie Churm had six of her nine
digs in the first game to lead the Cyclones.
The second game saw Missouri out hit
the Cyclones .371 to .257 and claim a 30-24 win.
The Cyclones led 11-10 in the
second game but were unable to hold off the Tigers.
Missouri stormed back scoring the
next six points to go up 16-10 and held off a
IowaState run to go up 2-0 in the
scored eight of the first ten points in the third game and controlled the game,
clinching the match with a 30-16 win.
The Cyclones hit .308 but were out
hit by an impressive Missouri
attack as the Tigers hit .469 in the final game.
Katie Jessen had eight kills to go
along with Klein's 11 kills and Amanda Craig had 31 assists to lead
Nicole Lorenzen had six kills to go
along with Churm's nine to lead the Cyclones defensively.
got 12 kills from Shen Danru and Nicole Wilson and Lindsey Hunter chipped in 41
assists to lead the Tigers.
