Minnetonka RB Jalon Hopkins Talks Recruitment

Jalon Hopkins, a 5-foot-10, 170-pound senior running back from Minnetonka (MN) High, led the Skippers Minnetonka to the Class AAAAA State Championship last season. He finished with 224 yards on 27 carries and two touchdowns in title game, including an 84 and 72-yard touchdown score in 23-14 win over Wayzata. Hopkins attended the Minnesota-Colorado State Saturday and Golden Sports.Net caught up with the talented running back to learn the latest on his recruitment.

Jalon Hopkins, who finished the 2004 season with 299 carries for 2,018 yards and 28 touchdowns, has led the Skippers to a 1-1 mark.

Hopkins rushed 15 times for 148 yards in their season-opening 35-14 loss to Wayzata in a rematch of the 2004 championship game. He scored on a 72-yard run and caught six passes for 62 yards.

Hopkins rushed ten times for 69 yards in their 58-30 win over Minneapolis North. He scored on a 31 and one yard touchdown run and caught a 25-yard pass for a score.

What is the latest on schools that you are hearing from?

"Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa State, Iowa, North Dakota State, South Dakota State, Texas, Miami , Western Michigan and Michigan State."

"No. I have to get my ACT up."

When are you taking that, in October?

"Yes."

Have you visited any campuses yet?

"I've been to Michigan State and here. I attended the Minnesota camp."

Are teams looking at you at the running back spot or perhaps to move to defense as a defensive back?

"They are looking at me as a running back."
