CN's Pick 5!

This week the CN Staff picks their eight winners and losers of the weekend. A running total will be kept all season long and the last place winner gets a congratulatory case of Natty Lite.

Texas A&M over SMU...The Aggies have had two weeks to get over that loss to Clemson and will take it out on the Mustangs.

Baylor over Army...Expect this to be by less than single digits, but the Cadets just aren't that good.

Missouri over Troy...Now we know why the Tigers lost to New Mexico at home last week, they were looking ahead to the revenge match with mighty Troy.

UCLA over Oklahoma...The Sooners just aren't that good and have some internal issues going on, and the Bruins are better than people think.

Texas Tech over Sam Houston State...Name the score here.

Kansas over Louisiana Tech...Wake me up when the Jayhawks play somebody.

Rice at Texas...Ready the woodshed, the Owls are coming to town.

Nebraska over Pittsburgh...First team to score an offensive touchdown wins.

Texas A&M over SMU…much like TCU having a great win over Oklahoma one week and bad loss the next, its SMU's turn. This one is going to be ugly. Texas A&M needs to get back to winning 48-13.

Army over Baylor…Waco is a long way from where this game will be played. Can the bottom of the Big 12 win a good game on the road? The Bears won at SMU to snap a 24-game road losing streak. QB Bell and RB Mosley have done well so far but will need to play like veterans at West Point as the Black Knights did not look good defensively. The Cyclones will be watching this one closely as both teams are on the schedule this year. Army's Carlton Jones proves to be the difference in this high scoring affair as Army pulls it out 31-28.

Missouri over TroyBrad Smith takes vengeance against the Trojans and erases the memory of last year's performance. Tigers defense did not look good last week in the loss against New Mexico but grow up a little this week. Tigers 35-18.

UCLA over OklahomaIf Adrian Peterson is limited in his play look for UCLA to have a double digit victory. Oklahoma needs to score more than 24 to win but falls short, UCLA 27-21.

Texas Tech over Sam Houston…why are we picking this game? Total blow out as Red Raiders throw it all over the place. Are they the sleeper in the South this year? Today they shine 56-17.

Kansas over Louisiana Tech…Mark Mangino needs this victory bad or he'll be on the hot seat. The Jayhawks rotating quarterback situation becomes clearer as Barman proves to be the better man. Jayhawks pull this one out 26-20.

Texas over Rice…do you think Texas will allow a OU/TCU type of performance after showing the nation there are #2. No way, Longhorns big in this, 49-10.

Nebraska over PittsburghDid anyone tell Dave Wannstedt that Miami won big last week? I guess coaches don't make a difference in the NFL. Nebraska keeps their home game streak alive and takes two weeks to prepare for the Cyclones, (which they will need to). Cory Ross gets 150 plus as the Cornhuskers go back to the basics in tying to find the West Coast passing attack. Huskers drop Pitt to 0-3 on the year 24-17.

Amanda Ouverson, CN Staff Writer

Texas A&M over SMU…Big 12 all the way.

Baylor over Army…Baylor's on a roll and it continues Saturday.

Missouri over TroyMissouri's will be out for revenge.

UCLA over OklahomaTCU is still on my mind.

Texas Tech over Sam Houston…Red Raiders get a double-digit victory.

Kansas over Louisiana Tech…I almost picked Louisiana Tech, but for some reason I went with Kansas in a close game.

Texas over Rice…The Owls are hooked by the ‘Horns – big time!

Nebraska over PittsburghPitt goes to 0-3.

Chad Winterboer, CN Chief Operating Officer

Texas A&M over SMU…This one might get ugly. Texas A&M wins this one easily.

Baylor over Army…This will be a very interesting game to follow from an Iowa State perspective.  Obviously Army is next for Iowa State with Baylor coming up in three weeks.  I have to go with the Big 12 in this one. Army has really struggled this season and I think Baylor is slowly getting better. Baylor wins this one but it will be close.

Missouri over TroyI don't have very much faith in Missouri but with Brad Smith there is always the possibility of a big day. Troy doesn't have as much talent as they have had in the past so I'll take Missouri to win this one.

UCLA over OklahomaI can't believe I'm saying this but I'm going to pick UCLA to win this game. I'm sure the one time I bet against Oklahoma it will bite me in the rear but UCLA has been on a roll offensively this year and Oklahoma has to find a way to pass the ball so teams don't load up against Adrian Peterson. Even though UCLA has never beaten Oklahoma they will find a way to get it done this week.

Texas Tech over Sam Houston…Texas Tech will put up Play Station type numbers in this one and the game will probably be over before the end of the first quarter.

Kansas over Louisiana Tech…Kansas will win this game by at least 14 points due to their defense.  All summer we heard about how this might be the best Kansas team in a long time.  Their defense was good last year and they will be good again this year.

Texas over Rice…Texas is good.  Rice is bad.  Need I say more?  Texas wins huge!

Nebraska over PittsburghThis game is all about the battle of the former NFL coaches.  The real question I have is which one of these coaches will get fired first?  As much as I am concerned about Nebraska's offense at this point I'm going to have to pick the Huskers in this one strictly due to the game being in Lincoln.

On the season…

Mark Hersom                        6-4

Amanda Ouverson               5-5
