Dan McCarney on Jamie Pollard

ISU head football coach Dan McCarney discusses the hiring of Jamie Pollard as the new athletics director at Iowa State.

Do you think Jamie Pollard's a good fit for Iowa State?

McCarney: From the time I've been with him he's been very personable. We have to do more with less at Iowa State that's no secret. We've done it the 11 years that I've been here, but you've got to be creative and I think he's one of those guys that has great ideas.

We're not going to make excuse, we don't look for excuses. Let's find ways to be more successful than we have in the past. Maintain the integrity of the programs here at Iowa State, but let's go on and be more successful and I think Jamie will p[provide that leadership and those kinds of ideas.

If he comes to you and asks what can he do for your football program, what will you say?

McCarney: There's some things confidentiality I'll tell him, because there's some real challenges and things we've got to work through. The bottom line is there's a lot of great things' going on at our program. We want to continue doing those. We don't need to come in and re-work everything we're doing in the football program. But we're always looking for ways to improve and to do more with less and take this program even higher.

What will you tell him about Ames?

McCarney: Same thing I've been telling recruits and families and friends for a long time – this is a great place to make a living, it's a great place to raise a family, it's a wonderful place for young people. The education doesn't get any better than it does here – elementary schools, middle schools, high school's, Iowa State University, it's hard to beat.
