ISU Softball Hosts Kirkwood in Fall Exhibition

The Iowa State softball team will host Kirkwood Community College in a fall exhibition on Wednesday at the Southwest Athletic Complex in Ames. First pitch of the doubleheader is scheduled for 3 p.m.

The Cyclones, coached by first-year head coach Stacy Gemeinhardt, recorded a 4-0-1 record last weekend at the Chicagoland Fall Classic. ISU was tied with Bradley, 2-2, after eight innings before the game was called because of the time limit rule.

The Cyclones, who return 13 players from last year's team, also defeated South Dakota State, St. Francis and Robert Morris College on the weekend.

Kirkwood Community College finished the 2005 season with an overall record of 48-11. The Eagles posted a 16-4 record in the Iowa Community College Conference to win the championship.

The Eagles, who are coached by Jim Overturf, advanced to regional play and posted a record of 2-2 to finish second in region.

The Cyclones will open regular season play Feb. 17-19 at the Florida State Tournament.

Admission to all softball games at the Southwest Athletic Complex is free.
