3 Keys to an ISU Victory

Find out what staff writer Mark Hersom thinks will be the keys to an ISU victory.

Pressure the QB-

Army is going to more of a passing game which should feed right into the hands of the Cyclones defense. Watch for the TE Jared Ulekowski at 6-foot-3, 244 pounds. The senior will try to find openings when ISU blitzes. Forcing the 6-foot Dahman into errant passes will be key as he has shown to force turnovers.

Smother Carlton Jones-

Contain RB Carlton Jones who has only a 2.96 yds/carry average with no touchdowns this year. His longest run so far is 13 yards. The amazing stat for Jones is he has carried the ball 615 times in his career with no fumbles. If the Clones make him drop the ball, that will be huge to his confidence. Jones is a good back and has proven it in time as he has scored 27 touchdowns in his career and broke one for 74 yards last year so he can go the distance.

ISU running game needs to build on 4th quarter performance against Iowa-

Would the real Stevie Hicks please stand up? Can Stevie continue to gain momentum from the 4th quarter against Iowa and head into Big 12 play looking like an all-conference back that the Cyclones need? The Cyclones should dominate the line of scrimmage but they need to prove that they can be an evenly spread offensive team so they won't be forced into passing the ball. Getting three to four yards on first down carries is needed to set up Barney Cotton's offense to be hard to stop. Look for Stevie to get 150 yards in this one heading to Lincoln next week.
