Cyclone Volleyball Hosts Colorado Wednesday Night

The Iowa State volleyball team will welcome Colorado for an important Big 12 match for both teams. The Cyclones enter the match at 8-6 overall and 2-2 in Big 12 play while the Buffaloes are 5-4 overall and 1-3 in conference play.

"Colorado is an athletic team with a very good setter and a great right side," said head coach Christy Johnson. "Even though it's still early on in the conference schedule, I see this match as very important for both teams."

Iowa State dropped a 3-0 decision to No. 1 Nebraska on Saturday night to move back to .500 in the Big 12. The Cyclones were unable to get their offense going and were unable to get it past Nebraska at the net, as they were out blocked for just the fourth time this season. Erin Boeve led ISU with 10 kills, a solo block and four block assists against the Huskers.

Boeve is leading the Cyclones defensively, averaging 1.75 blocks per game this season. The sophomore from Steen, Minn. is even better in conference matches with an average of 2.07.

On the season, Katie Jessen leads ISU with 162 kills in the Cyclones 14 matches. Katie Churm is averaging 4.71 digs and Amanda Craig leads the Cyclone offensive attack with 537 assists.

Colorado has three Big 12 losses, all to ranked teams, but took care of Oklahoma, 3-2 (30-26, 24-30, 26-30, 30-27, 15-12), on Saturday evening behind 27 kills from Allie Griffin.

Griffin ranks second in the Big 12 in kills, averaging an impressive 5.22 kills. Ashley Nu'u leads the Buffalo attack with 13.55 assists per game.

Colorado swept the Cyclones last season, picking up a pair of 3-0 wins.
