Pre-Missouri Nik Moser Q&A

ISU senior strong safety Nik Moser looks ahead to the Missouri game.

On if Brad Smith is more dangerous this year…

I think he is. Their offense they spread you out. He's averaging over 100 yards rushing. Their offense is unreal, so he's very dangerous and their offense is dangerous as well.

On if Iowa State is scared to death of him and if they'll just try to contain Smith…

Yeah, he's such a great player he can scare defensive coordinators, he can scare defenses and you have to respect him. Hopefully you can try to control him a bit and have a good game against him.

On if the team thinks about last years Missouri game…

Maybe a little bit but last years game compared to this game is going to be totally different. Their offense is night and day difference to where it was last year. You think about it a little bit about, what it meant to us losing the game in overtime, but at the same time it's a different game.

On how much the team can draw on starting 0-3 last year and rebounding…

We've been in this situation. A lot of people on the team have been in this situation before and hopefully we can bounce back this week.

On if he sense's Iowa State fans are on the verge of a break down…

I don't know I've been an Iowa State fan or awhile I don't think I'm ready to do that yet.

On how frustrating it is to be getting beat by three or four plays…

When your close it really frustrates you. You look at the past couple of games and we're two or three plays away from maybe being 5-0 and that really is frustrating. If it was something where we just weren't good enough athletically or physically it might be a little bit easier to accept but when you don't make a couple plays that hurts you in two big games; that's frustrating.

On last season how things went Iowa State's way but this year they don't seem to be doing so (example two fumble returns by Brent Curvey)…

Turnovers they can make or break a game for you and defensively we've got to go out there and cause more turnovers. When you cause turnovers you're going to set your offense up hopefully and hopefully we can go out there and get some more.

On if some of it is just the bounce of the ball….

I don't know, I don't know what it is. If teams are doing a better job of holding on to the ball against us or if we're just not getting after the ball like we were last year or the beginning of the season; we're going to have to change that.

On if this team has the same goals as the beginning of the season…

Yeah, I think we're still going after the same goals; get a win and have a good season.

On the loss of Ryan Baum

It's huge he's one of our better players and when you take out someone that's on every special teams and not just special teams he's out there and he's making plays on special teams. He's a gunner on punt and he's good at doing that and he's our punt returner. When you lose someone like that people are going to have to step up and people who usually don't play special teams are going to have to step in and try to play special teams for you.

On if he's been involved on the punt return…

I'm in there blocking, I'm trying to open up the holes for people.

On how Todd Blythe will do back there…

I think all right. I think we have people of capable going back there with him and [RJ] Sumrall and on [Jon] Davis so I don't think we're going to lose a whole lot because we're still going to have athletes back there.
