ISU Travels to Oklahoma for Big 12 Contest

The Iowa State volleyball team will face Oklahoma on Saturday in Norman, Okla. The Big 12 match is slated to begin at 3 p.m. in McCasland Field House.

Iowa State enters the match with a record of 11-8 overall and 4-4 in Big 12 play. The Sooners are 5-12 overall and 0-8 in conference play.

ISU has dropped two straight Big 12 matches for the first time this season and is looking to rebound against the Sooners.

"Something that we talked about after the A&M match is getting comfortable being in those types of matches," said head coach Christy Johnson. "We are playing great volleyball, but we need to sustain that level an entire match and stay aggresive at the end of close games."

The Cyclones fell, 3-1, to No. 24 Texas A&M on Wednesday evening in Ames. Erin Boeve tied a career-high in the match with 19 kills while Jessica Klein notched a career-high 13 kills in the loss.

Katie Churm recorded 20 digs against A&M, the fifth time this season that the junior has accomplished the feat. Churm is leading the Big 12 in digs per game, averaging 4.80.

ISU picked up a win in the first game but was unable to hold off the Aggies, who entered the match with a No. 24 national ranking despite a 1-5 league record.

Oklahoma is riding a season-long nine match losing streak, including Wednesday's 3-1 loss at Baylor.

Against Baylor, Eliane Santos and Joanna Schmitt led OU with 14 kills each. Santos also had 10 block assists in the match and Anna Monsen had 12 digs to lead the Sooner defense.

The Sooners are led by Santos, who ranks fourth in the league with 4.16 kills per game. Sarah Weiland leads the Big 12 in service aces with 34 on the season. The sophomore had 31 aces in her freshman campaign.

The Cyclones have won three of the last four meetings against Oklahoma.
