CN's Pick 5!

This week the CN Staff picks their five winners and losers of the weekend. A running total will be kept all season long and the last place winner gets a congratulatory case of Natty Lite.

Iowa State over Oklahoma State...If they don't win this weekend, pass the beer nuts.  Wait, didn't I just say that last week?

Nebraska over Missouri...Maybe if I pick the hated Huskers they'll finally stop winning?

Oklahoma over Baylor...But barely, this will not be a blowout.

Texas A&M over Kansas State...The fact that the Wildcats just aren't that good finally catches up to them.

Colorado over Kansas...Bickering Jayhawks will drop another defensive slugfest.

Iowa State over Oklahoma StateThis is a must win for not only Cyclone players but the entire Athletic Department. Lose this game and your record National Cyclone Club donors will go down. The Cyclones clearly have underachieved, but as we know the season is not over and goals are still achievable unless you lose. I saw flashes of a running game in last week's loss against the Tigers. The Cowboys are last in the league in rushing defense and it would be nice to see us go over 200 yards. The Homecoming crowd will not be let down as the Cyclones win 28-17. Next up, the Aggies to see if Coach McCarney can ever beat this team and have that marquee win against someone other than Iowa or Nebraska.

Nebraska over MissouriWhich was more impressive, the Tigers beating the Cyclones with a true freshman quarterback or the Cornhuskers beating a hungry Baylor? I feel the latter as the Cyclones gave away that game last week as well as a bad call by the opposite field ref who clearly couldn't see Dobbins strip the ball as the receiver was still moving forward. I hate to say it but defense wins games for the Huskers and the Missouri defense really didn't do much against the Cyclones as those turnovers were simply ISU mistakes. If the Cyclones were able to contain Brad Smith, surely the "Blackshirts" will too unless they get too cocky thinking they can sack Smith on every play. I see Nebraska getting a lead and holding off Smith winning a crucial North title race game. The winner is in the drivers' seat and the loser looks at third place. NU wins 31-21.

Oklahoma over Baylor…Boy I would love to see Stoops reaction if the Bears would win two road games in a row. That would surely make our defeat feel better even though it really, really hurts. The Bears have been decent on defense and played good against Nebraska but they would need to win the special teams game to win at Norman. I want to pick the Bears but after the Sooners making the Jayhawks look like a high school team on offense, I have to believe they are starting to turn it around. They will need to with the Huskers in Lincoln next week. Give the edge to the home team as Sooners win a close one, 20-17.

Texas A&M over Kansas StateThe Aggies are starting to find their groove. That isn't good as they will host ISU next week, but the Wildcats are not a fearsome as in the past. This will be tight early but the Aggie offensive line takes over in the second half to make this one lopsided. Aggies win as McNeal starts to run like he's on a mission; let's hope Meyer can do the same. A&M 34, KSU 13.

Colorado over KansasThe Jayhawks basketball team is starting practice this week so time to hang up the cleats. The Buffs will not be denied at home as they have the best schedule down the stretch with KU, Mizzou and NU all coming to Boulder. The Jayhawks offense is playing hide & seek and no one is looking for them. Klatt throws for close to 300 yards as they do not need a running game. The Buffaloes roam all over the Jayhawks and appear to be the frontrunner for the North title, 42-17.

Iowa State over Oklahoma StateI took a stance at the beginning of the week saying the Cyclones are going to win out and Saturday's game against OSU will be the start of the five game tear.

Nebraska over MissouriNebraska's the better team and will prevail Saturday.

Oklahoma over Baylor…I'll give it to the Sooners just because its in Norman, otherwise I might go with the Bears.

Texas A&M over Kansas StateReggie McNeal and Co. run away from the Wildcats 35-14.

Colorado over KansasUnfortunately Colorado moves a game closer to the Big 12 North.

Iowa State over Oklahoma StateIowa State will bounce back from the three game skid in a convincing fashion. If three plays go the other way Iowa State is 6-0. Dan McCarney isn't the one fumbling in the end zone and he will lead the Cyclones to a big homecoming victory. Iowa State will go AT LEAST 7-4 this year and McCarney will once again silence his critics.

Nebraska over MissouriAs much as it pains me to do so I have to pick Nebraska in this one. Missouri might have won last week but they didn't look good doing it. Iowa State gave away that game and Nebraska is finally rolling. I like the Huskers by 10.

Oklahoma over Baylor…It's crazy that this will actually be a good game. Who would have thought at the beginning of the year that people would actually be thinking Baylor in this one. It doesn't really matter though because it's still Oklahoma and Baylor and it's in Norman. No contest Oklahoma by 20.

Texas A&M over Kansas StateTo me this one is a toss up but I'm going to go with the Aggies. It think their offense will put up a lot of points at Kansas State. It will be close but I like A&M by a touchdown.

Colorado over KansasI like the Buffs purely because Kansas's offense is as productive as Mangino on Jenny Craig. I like Colorado by 10.

Iowa State over Oklahoma StateIowa State will finally win the turnover margin this week and beat a struggling Oklahoma State team. Iowa State's offensive line will continue their improved play helping Greg Coleman and Jason Harris eat up the clock.

Nebraska over MissouriNebraska's offense is getting better and Missouri's defense is bad so look for the Huskers to rack up a lot of yards on Saturday.  Nebraska will learn from Iowa State's defensive performance and will keep Missouri's offense in check.

Oklahoma over Baylor…Baylor is a much improved team this year and everyone knows Oklahoma has had its struggles but Oklahoma's defense will still be too much for Baylor to handle. Oklahoma wins this one by at least two touchdowns.

Texas A&M over Kansas State….Texas A&M has been a tough team to figure out this year but I look for them to continue to improve as the year goes on. Reggie McNeal will be too much for Kansas State to handle and once again the South defeats the North.

Colorado over Kansas….Kansas has a very good defense but a horrible offense.  There is no way Kansas can score enough points to win this game. I look for Colorado to win by 17 or more.

On the season…
