Haig Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week

Iowa State sophomore goalkeeper Joanna Haig was named Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week by the Big 12 on Tuesday.

This came after Haig picked up her sixth shutout of the season in ISU's 3-0 win over Oklahoma on Sunday, clinching a conference tournament spot. The Inver Grove Heights, Minn., native also recorded a game-high five saves as the Cyclones defeated Oklahoma State on Friday.

This is the second such honor for Haig, the first coming on Oct. 12, 2004 after she helped Iowa State shutout Missouri, 2-1.

Currently, she is second in the Big 12 with 91 saves, second in save percentage (.827) and second in shutouts (6). Just a sophomore, Haig has already started to make a dent in the Cyclone record books. Her eight career shutouts are third all-time and with one more win, she can tie the school record for career wins. She trails only Lynley Hilligoss, who garnered 19 victories in the 1998-99 seasons.

The Cyclones (10-5-3, 5-3-1 Big 12) travel to No. 22 Nebraska on Friday for a 4 p.m. match-up in their final conference game.
