The Cyclones (13-13, 6-9 Big 12) shocked the Longhorns (19-3, 13-2 Big 12) when they came to Ames on Sept. 17. Katie Jessen had 18 kills and Meghan Ferrie posted 13 kills and no errors on 25 attempts to lead ISU past then-No. 18 Texas, 3-1. The Longhorns took the first game but were unable to hold off the defensive minded Cyclones. ISU had 17 team blocks and 60 digs in the match. Leticia Armstrong and Brandy Magee each had 20 kills for Texas in the loss.
ISU, one of just two Big 12 teams to defeat Texas this season, lost to No. 1 Nebraska, 3-0, last Saturday afternoon at Hilton Coliseum. The match marked the first time this season that ISU had no players with double-figure kills.
Iowa State is led offensively by Katie Jessen, who has 293 kills this season. On the defensive side, Erin Boeve enters the contest ranked eighth in the nation and second in the Big 12 averaging 1.66 blocks. The sophomore has already shattered the single-season block assist record at ISU, recording 136 this year.
The Cyclones' Katie Churm is leading the Big 12 in digs per game, posting 4.42.
The Longhorns own a seven-match winning streak, including an exciting five-game win over No. 25 Colorado on Wednesday night, and will be looking to avenge one of their two conference losses when they host ISU.
Leticia Armstrong ranks fourth in the conference in hitting percentage at .391. Dariam Acedvedo has 302 kills while Armstrong comes in at second on the team with 273. Michelle Moriarty is one of the top setters in the conference, averaging 13.39 assists which ranks second in the Big 12.
