Anna Florzak Looks Forward to ISU Career

Anna Florzak averaged 10.2 points a game in her junior season. Florzak is an All-State athlete in basketball, cross country and track. Florzak is shooting for a state championship this year with seven other seniors on her roster.

Anna Florzak is a 5'10 guard that will bring some incredible athletic ability to Iowa State's women's basketball team next year. Being one of the top prospects in the state of Missouri, Florzak will attempt to lead her high school, Notre Dame de Sion to a state championship in Missouri. Her high school is returning everybody from a team that went 24-3 last season. Individually, last season Florzak averaged 10.2 points per game and grabbed four steals a game. In setting a school record, Anna had 13 steals in one game last year.

Iowa State first contacted Anna when she attended a camp in Ames before her junior year. She was also heavily recruited by: Nebraska, Santa Clara, Santa Barbara, Iowa, Missouri, Tulsa, Drake, and numerous schools on the East Coast. When it came down to it, Iowa State just felt very comfortable for the athletic guard out of Missouri.

"It just seems really homey. You're able to feel like you're at home even thought its three and a half hours away. It's a good fit for me," said Florzak.

Florzak took her official visit to Iowa State on Oct.22 where she enjoyed getting to meet her future teammates and attending local haunted houses.

"We hung out at Lyndsey Medders house and we went to the Haunted Forrest. It was really fun to get to know all of the girls and to get to see what it was going to be like next year," said Florzak.

One thing that really attracted Florzak to Iowa State was they type of players that Coach Fennelly recruits. Florzak, who is the current secretary of her chapter of the National Honor Society, is very focused on her academics.

"Coach Fennelly always recruits the best. He always recruits really smart girls which is really important to me because I go to a private school so academics have always been important," said Florzak.

Florzak doesn't just shine in the sport of basketball. She is the first athlete in her schools history to be all-state in three sports in one year. Also, her cross country team just won the state championship last weekend. Though she's coming off the high of a state championship, it's all business for Anna as she's getting ready to begin her senior campaign in basketball. With eight seniors on her team, Anna's goal is a state championship and nothing less.
