Stinson opened the season with a career-best performance, posting 35 points as the Cyclones defeated Mountain State, 101-82. He connected on 15-of-24 (.625) shots from the floor, including making 3-of-6 from 3-point range. The junior guard also had seven assists, five rebounds and no turnovers. The scoring total was the most by an Iowa State player since Marcus Fizer had 38 vs. Baylor on March 10, 2000. It was Stinson's third 30+ scoring outing of his career, the 13th player in school history to score 30 or more points three times.
It was Stinson's third Big 12 Player of the Week honor of his career. He won it twice last year as a sophomore.
