Williams: The Night Has Finally Come

On Friday night Adam Haluska will make his return to Ames and Cyclone Nation's own Chris Williams gives his take on what's going to happen. Williams will be Cyclone Nation's new Thursday Columnist.

It's finally here. It's the game I've been looking forward to since I was a freshman at Iowa State two years ago. It's the single thing that I've been living for and losing sleep over for the past two years. Adam Haluska is returning to Hilton, and the Magic will be waiting for him.

Here's my take on the situation. When people say that they hope the focus of the game won't be on Adam Haluska, I think they are insane. The fact of the matter is that Haluksa not only transferred to his rival, but he told the media days before that he was staying at Iowa State and basically lied to Iowa State fans.

When Haluska hits the floor of Hilton on Friday, there's no question about it that it's going to be ugly. That's the end of the story. It's going to get nasty. Now how the fans react, I believe is up to them. Personally, I don't think there is any right or wrong when it comes down to it. I'm not saying that I want people throwing things on the court, or even obscenities, but I am saying that Cyclone fans have a right to be angry. They have a right to express themselves, as long as it stays in the boundaries. I hope the fans get extremely creative and do some things that we've never seen before.

Let's be honest, if the situation was reversed, and Greg Brunner got up and transferred to Iowa State, do you really think the people at Carver Hawkeye would stand and clap? Heck no, they'd be all over the traitor like a pit-bull on a poodle.

What I'm saying is this. No matter what the coaches, the media or the players say, Friday's game is about Adam Haluska's return to Ames. It is a huge story no matter how you look at it. He's one of Iowa's best players and he would be the same if he were still playing in Ames. The fact of the matter is, as much as Haluska wants the people in Ames to forget about what he did, they haven't, nor will they. The Iowa State Daily has been getting letters to the editor about him for the past two years, all looking forward to Friday night and they haven't been offering him roses. As if it wasn't bad enough for Cyclone fan's what happened with their beloved coach, Larry Eustacy, their star player of the future had to stab them in the back at the very same time.

I'm not saying that Haluska's intensions were to stab Cyclone fans in the heart. I have no problem with him transferring if he wanted to. It's a free country. That's what makes America great. People do what they want to do when they want to do it. But come Friday night, when Hilton is rowdier than ever, nobody can blame Iowa State fans for being upset. After all, it is big time college athletics. We aren't playing a high school game on Friday. This is the biggest rivalry in the state and one of the most anticipated games in the rivalries history.

It's going to be nutty, and it's going to be fun. Just be smart Cyclone fans. Be smart, have a good time and make Haluska pay on the scoreboard, because that's where it really matters most. Go Cyclones!
