South Florida Tonight at 11:30

The Cyclones will be taking on South Florida tonight at 11:30. This is the first round of the Rainbow Classic.

Iowa State gets ready to take on the South Florida Bulls tonight in the first

round of the Rainbow Classic. I guess it's part tonight part tomorrow

morning, as the game will not start until 11:30 p.m. (CST) so plan for a late

night of following the Cyclones.

South Florida (5-3), is now playing in the ever changing Big East Conference. They are coming off a solid win over Florida Atlantic (62-44) and will try to

ride that momentum as they take on the Cyclones tonight. This should not be an

easy opening round game of the tournament for the Cyclones because of the

tough, experienced guard-play that the Bulls feature. James Holmes, a 6-2 195

lb Sr. guard, averages 19.1 points per game while Melvin Buckley, a 6-6 Jr. forward/guard, is averaging 13.3 points per game. The competition for South Florida has not been very tough this season (except for Michigan where they lost 68-47) but this should still be a solid challenge for the Cyclones.

The question for Iowa State has to be whether or not they can shake off a tough

loss to Ohio State and learn to put teams away. That was a game that the

Cyclones controlled throughout and a game that they should have won. Hopefully

they will not experience a "Cyclone Hangover" and will get the ball rolling

early. This usually has not been the case for this year's Cyclones as they have

come through big after losses to Iona and Fresno State with big wins over

Northern Iowa and Drake.
