Florida State Defeats Iowa State, 9-1

Yuruby Alicart and Michelle Snyder drove in two runs each to lead Florida State past Iowa State, 9-1, in the Seminole Classic in Tallahassee, Fla. on Saturday afternoon.

With the loss, Iowa State falls to 1-3 on the season while Florida State improves to 7-2.


Florida State lit up the scoreboard first with Yuruby Alicart two-run home run in the second inning that plated Carly Brieske.


FSU broke the game open with a four-run fourth inning, which was highlighted by a two-run double by Snyder. The Seminoles also got an RBI single from Veronica Wootson and a sacrifice fly off the bat of Kim Hoffer to go ahead 6-0 after three.


A pair of hits and an error by the Seminoles in the fourth inning allowed ISU to cut into the deficit. Ashley Killeen reached on an error and Katie Reichling broke up Tiffany McDonald's no-hit bid with a line drive single up the middle. Jessica Quade then collected her second RBI of the season, singling to right field to score Killeen.


Florida State got the run back in the bottom of the fourth as Whitney Buckmon drove home Kim Petrovich. Petrovich was pinch running for Melissa Wood, who reached on a double.


Buckmon led the way with three hits for Florida State. McDonald (5-1) held ISUto just three hits in picking up the win.


Alyssa Ransom (0-2) went 4.2 innings before she was knocked out of the game after being hit in the hand by a line drive up the middle. Quade, Reichling and Kristy Olsen were the only Cyclones to reach base with a hit.


The Cyclones will take the field again on Friday, February 24, at the Crowne Plaza Classic in Houston, Texas. ISU will open the tournament against Wichita State at 9 a.m.


Notes: The Cyclones went 1-3 in the Seminole Classic … Jessica Quade drove in an RBI for the second consecutive game and extended her hitting streak to two games … Reichling has now hit safely in three straight games.
