"I'm really impressed with the coaches at Iowa State. I think that they have a lot of things going right in their program. They've really turned it around in the last couple of years," said Nielsen. "Coach (Tony) Alford talked to me quite a bit. I talked to Mike Nelson a lot also. I felt really comfortable around all of them."

Nielsen currently hasn't received an offer from Iowa State. Nielson is also interested in Iowa, Wisconsin, Kansas State and Purdue. Nielsen was scheduled to attend Purdue's Junior Day a few weeks back, but was stranded in Iowa sick and in bed.

Nielsen however, did have the opportunity to attend Iowa's Junior Day.

"I was impressed by the coaches there too and their facilities were outstanding," said Nielsen about Iowa.

"I'd say the two schools are equal," said Nielsen.

From this point, Nielsen is planning on attending both the Iowa and Iowa State camps this summer and some numerous combines along the way.

In his junior season, Nielsen recorded 95 tackles for a Humblodt team that was eliminated in the first round of the playoffs. Nielsen sat out one game due to a strained MCL but he recovered nicely.

"I'd like to commit early but I don't know if I'll get any offers early. It really doesn't matter to me. I'm going to concentrate on high school ball anyways," said Nielsen.
