Ashley Killeen hit two home runs

ISU will face the winner of Charleston Southern and UNC Greensboro Sunday at 10 a.m.

Ashley Killeen hit two home runs and tied a career-high with six RBI to lead Iowa State past Charleston Southern, 11-1, in five innings at the Charleston Southern Tournament Saturday afternoon.

Iowa State (7-6) pounded out 11 hits while limiting Charleston Southern (4-15-1) to just four hits. The Cyclones have held their last four opponents to four hits or less en route to winning five straight games for the first time since 2003.

With the Cyclones leading 3-1 in the bottom of the second, Killeen drilled a Jill Shondel pitch over the wall in left center to pick up the second grand slam of her career and increase the Cyclone lead to 7-1.

The Cyclone lead was 9-1 after Killeen struck again with a fourth inning two-run shot. After Iowa State added another run, Katherine Cross grounded out to shortstop to score Jessica Quade and give the Cyclones an insurmountable 10-run lead.

Iowa State jumped out to an early lead in the first when Katie Reichling and Ellen Buehner scored on an error by the Bucs.

Alyssa Ransom (3-3) went the distance for ISU and allowed one run on four hits to pick up the win.

Ellen Buehner joined Killeen with a pair of hits in the game.

With the win, the Cyclones earned a first round bye in bracket play and will face the winner of the Charleston Southern/UNC Greensboro game at 10 a.m. Sunday.
