Janet Anson Named Big 12 Gymnast of the Week

Anson is ranked fifth on three events, including vault (9.900), floor (9.900) and the all-around (39.390).

AMES, Iowa - Iowa State junior Janet Anson was named Big 12 Gymnast of the Week for the second time this season and the fourth time in her career, the league office announced Tuesday.

Anson won or tied for first in three-of-four events vs. Minnesota this past Friday (vault, 9.975), (bars, 9.850) and floor (9.925), in addition to winning the all-around with a season-high 39.525.

The Kansas City, Mo., native's vault tied the second-highest score in school history as she also garnered a 9.975 vs. Illinois in 2004. Anson, who scored a perfect 10 on vault in 2004, and Shelly Kringen (1999-2002), are the only ISU gymnasts to ever record a perfect 10 on the vault.

The three-time All-American took third in the all-around in ISU's win over Nebraska on Sunday with a 39.250 as Iowa State became the first team to defeat Nebraska in the Bob Devaney Sports Center since 1993, winning 196.250-196.125. The Huskers had won 60-consecutive home meets entering Sunday's competition and Iowa State had not defeated NU in Lincoln since Jan. 14, 1978.

Anson is ranked fifth in the nation on three events, including vault (9.900), floor (9.900) and the all-around (39.390). She has scored a 9.800 or higher in 24-of-her-last 30 routines in the all-around.

Iowa State will look to push its dual winning streak to 10 as they travel to No. 15 Arizona State on Friday.
