Prepping for the day
Last night was a blast. We decided
against going to the Mavs game which was a good call for our pocketbooks.
Instead we went out on the town of Dallas and saw the sights which were very cool.
We went to one of those bars where the waiters cuss at you and the only way to
get good service is to go right back at them. Then we came back and hung out
with other media members until about 2 am. This was a blast. It's cool getting
to hang with those guys and not be at a game.
I just got ready to head to the
women's game which will start off my very long but fun day. It doesn't matter if
the women win or not, they have a lot to be proud of. They are an extremely
young team that is passionate about what they do. They are led by a coach who
might be the most popular person in all of Iowa State athletics and Lyndsey Medders has
all of the makings to be a superstar. It's a great team to watch and they
deserve everyone's support. From
there I will then be going to the men's basketball practice at 4 pm. The big
storyline today will be if Tasheed Carr made the trip with the team or not. From
talking to numerous members of the media last night, it doesn't sound like he
did. I'll keep you all at CN posted. Until then Go Clones!
Wednesday March 8, 5:24 pm. – Done
I just got done attending the
men's basketball practice here at American Airlines Arena. This place is
absolutely enormous. What an experience this has been. Practice was a lot of fun
to watch. A couple of other local journalists and me had a chance to talk to
Wayne Morgan off the record for about 10 minutes during practice. What a great
guy. He is a really funny dude to sit and talk to when you aren't talking
basketball. Anyways the practice was a pretty laid back shoot around. The
players seemed to be in good spirits.
The one thing I'm psyched up about
tomorrow is going to Bobby Knight's press conference after the 11:30 game. For
those of you who don't know, I am pretty much obsessed with Bobby Knight. I love
everything about the man and just being in the same town as him is an honor for
Thursday March 8, 2:05 am. – Home
from a night on the town
First off I saw Mugsy Bogues AGAIN
in the lobby of our hotel. I swear the little dude is stalking me. Wow, I now
know what it's like to live in Texas. Ok here's what happened, I have a
cousin who lives in Dallas. She's 25 and her name is Krysten so she
came up and picked up myself, Brent Blum and Dave Sprau, the sports director for
1430 KASI. She wanted to show us what Dallas was really about so she took us out to a
cowboy bar. First of all let me tell you all this, there are a lot of beautiful
cowgirls in Dallas. They aren't necessarily the classiest
broads, but they get the job done if you know what I mean. We had a lot of
interesting experiences tonight. This one girl was riding the mechanical bull
and her jubblies were seriously popping out of her shirt. She didn't care
though; I mean she probably paid thousands of dollars for them anyways. There
was this big time local honky tonk band playing the entire night. I'm not going
to lie, I enjoy country music. Afterwards we were outside waiting for our car
and this lady was extremely angry and swearing at the police. She was upset
because supposedly she was going to the rest room and in her words a "Mexican"
guy walked in on her in the restroom. She then proceeded to get kicked out of
the place. So what does she do? She sees the little farm boys from Iowa and scares the
living crap out of us. She was trying to get us to let her use our cell phones.
So this lady is seriously on the verge of being arrested, and decides to bring
us into it. The cops are watching us closely now and she won't stop swearing. At
this point and time I think I saw a tear come out of Blum's eyes. It was a
frightening yet memorable experience. The one thing I now know for sure is that
George Strait seriously is a god in Texas. I'm off to bed. I
have to be on 1430 KASI's morning talk show tomorrow at seven am.
