Amie Ford struck out 11 batters but it wasn't enough as Iowa State dropped a hard-fought contest to Liberty, 2-1, in action at the Bethune-Cookman Tournament on Saturday evening.

Ford (7-5) was dealt the loss despite tossing a complete game five-hitter and striking out 11 Flames in the game. It was the fifth game this season that Ford has recorded 10-plus strikeouts.

Liberty (19-7) touched the scoreboard for a pair of solo runs in the fourth and fifth innings to jump out to a 2-0 lead.

Beth Hensley started the scoring with a double to left center that plated Ashley Williams and put the Flames ahead for good. Liberty would add another in the next frame on a single by Dawn Jeffs that made the margin 2-0 in favor of the designated visitor.

ISU (13-11) did cut into the lead in the in the sixth when Fallon Johnson scored on an infield single by Ashley Killeen.

That would be all the scoring Iowa State would get as Sarah Swor (8-3) shut the Cyclones down in the seventh inning. Swor allowed five hits in the contest.

The Cyclones squandered a scoring opportunity in the first when Killeen and Katie Reichling reached on a pair of back-to-back two-out singles. A strong throw from Hensley, the leftfielder, on Reichling's hit got Killeen at home to end the inning.

Killeen went 2-for-3 with the lone RBI to lead Iowa State in the loss. Reichling also collected a pair of hits.

The Cyclones will face Liberty again on Sunday at 10 a.m. (CT).
