On Saturday in Iowa City some of the best high school football players in all of the Midwest will be at the Scout.com combine being held. Among them will be some of Iowa State's top recruiting targets in 2007. Find out who right here in this CN feature on the IC Scout Combine. This is part two of a two part story.
Tyler Nielsen – 6'4, 215 pound LB
– Humboldt HS – Humboldt, IA
Nielsen is the other big time
Humboldt recruit that Iowa State is going after in the class of 07.
He doesn't have an offer yet but has seen significant interest by both
Iowa and Iowa State early in the process. Nielson is
also interested in, Wisconsin, Kansas State and Purdue.
"I'd say the two schools
(Iowa and Iowa State) are equal," said Nielsen in a CN
interview last month.
In his junior season, Nielsen
recorded 95 tackles for a Humboldt team that was eliminated in the first round
of the playoffs.
Niles Paul – 6'1, 200 pound WR –
Omaha North – Omaha, NE
Paul is the teammate of Phillip
Banks and has already committed to Nebraska, but Paul will still be in attendance
on Saturday. Other teams, including Iowa State will more than likely still be after
the standout wide receiver when the recruiting season is in full force. He is
considered to be the top prospect in the state of Nebraska and is the
nephew of Green Bay Packer and former Husker, Ahman Green.
Ben Porth – 6'5, 240 pound OL –
Gretna HS – Gretna, NE
Porth is another top prospect out
of the state of Nebraska that Iowa State is showing early interest in. He has
good size at a position that the Cyclones will be hitting hard in next year's
class. Porth is still offer less but this combine could up his stock
drastically. Iowa State is joined by Kansas, Kansas State,
Colorado State, Nebraska and Wyoming having interest in Porth.
Colin Sandeman – 6'1, 188 pound WR
– Bettendorf HS – Bettendorf, IA
Sandeman is by far the most hyped
recruit in the state of Iowa this upcoming season. This athletic wide
receiver will be a hot commodity at the combine on Saturday as he'll receive as
much attention as anybody else in the field. Iowa State
was the first to offer Sandeman but they are now joined by Iowa, Kansas and
Alex Sandvig – 6'2, 175 pound WR –
Valley HS – West Des Moines, IA
Iowa State has to be the front runner in the race to get
this Valley recruit who is the younger brother of Zac Sandvig, a 2006 Iowa State commit. Sandvig is a lot like his
brother. He's very athletic and I'd be extremely surprised if he's not wearing a
Cyclone uniform in college.
Tyler Sash – 6'1, 190 pound S –
Oskaloosa HS – Oskaloosa, IA
Chris Ash and Iowa State have been after this local athlete
for quite some time now. CN spotted Ash at Sash's basketball games last winter
and the attention was followed up by an offer a few months back. Iowa State is
still the only school to offer Sash but expect an offer from Iowa in the near future
as well. All sources CN has talked to indicate that it would be extremely
surprising for Sash to go elsewhere. In his junior season, Sash racked up 49
receptions for 1,008 yards with 12 touchdowns. He's also an attractive
basketball prospect who could see the court at ISU. Expect an early commitment
Caleb Walter – 6'4, 200 pound QB –
West Branch HS – West Branch, IA
Walter is another young
quarterback that Iowa State is showing early interest in. This
position has been in good hands for some time at ISU but the coaches want more.
In 11 games last year, Walter completed 101 of 172 passes for 1,625 yards, 20
touchdowns and five interceptions. He also ran for 534 yards. Walter currently
doesn't hold an offer but that should change after some summer camps.
