Burlington High School hurdler Jenna Caffrey, the holder of four Drake Relays titles and two Iowa prep state meet crowns, signed a national letter of intent Tuesday to attend and compete for Iowa State. Caffrey has won the last two Drake Relays 100-meter hurdle titles, winning last season in a meet record 14.10 seconds. A win in that event this weekend would make the senior the first Iowa high schooler to win the 100-meter hurdles three times. She has also been on Burlington teams that have won the last two Drake Relays shuttle hurdle relay races.
"We are very excited that Jenna is going to wear a Cyclone uniform," ISU head women's track coach Dick Lee said. "Her achievements speak louder than words. Obviously, we are thrilled that she is joining our team."
Caffrey, who clocked a 13.7 hand-time effort in Ottumwa last week, won the Class 4-A 100-meter hurdles and ran on the winning shuttle hurdle relay at the 2005 Iowa state high school meet. She was also third in the 400-meter hurdles. As a sophomore, the Greyhound was the 100-meter hurdles runner-up and ran on the place-winning shuttle hurdle and sprint medley relays. Caffrey was the 100-meter hurdles runner-up as a freshman, placed fifth in the high jump and on the sprint medley and ran on the sixth-place shuttle hurdle relay.
