ISU's Hicks and Paris Sign NFL Contracts

Iowa State defensive back LaMarcus Hicks has signed a free agent contract with the Detroit Lions of the NFL. Safety Steve Paris has signed a free agent contract with the Baltimore Ravens, joining former Cyclone teammates Landon Schrage and Nick Leaders.

Hicks was a first-team all-Big 12 pick by the league's coaches after making 55 tackles and five interceptions in 2005. Paris was a second-team selection by the Big 12 coaches last season after making 65 tackles and three interceptions.

Schrage, Iowa State's deep snapper and ISU nose guard Nick Leaders are also Baltimore-bound after signing free agent contracts with the Ravens. Leaders finished his Iowa State career with 262 career tackles. Cyclone placekicker/punter Tony Yelk signed with the Atlanta Falcons. Yelk averaged 42.3 yards on 164 career punts. ISU middle linebacker Tim Dobbins was selected in the fifth round of the Sunday's NFL draft by the San Diego Chargers.
