ISU to Face Oklahoma State

The Cyclones and Cowgirls will meet at 5 p.m. on Wednesday

Iowa State will face No. 8 seed Oklahoma State (19-27) on Wednesday at 5 p.m. in the opening round of the Big 12 Championships in Oklahoma City, Okla.

The 2006 Big 12 tourney takes place Wednesday-Saturday, May 10-13, at the ASA Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City. Ten schools compete in Big 12 softball competition. The winner gets the Big 12's automatic berth to the 2006 NCAA Championship.

Iowa State (23-27), the No. 9 seed, split the regular season series with the Cowgirls.

The Cyclones won the first game, 7-3, behind a 2-for-3 effort from Ashley Killeen. Killeen hit a two-run homer in her first at bat of the Big 12 season to stake the Cyclones to an early lead. ISU cruised on to the win behind the arm of Amie Ford, who tossed six innings and allowed just three runs.

The Cowgirls bounced back with a 9-1 win in the next game to earn the split. First baseman Kim Kaye went 3-for-4 with three RBI to lead OSU to the win.

If Iowa State wins it would face top-seeded Texas at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
