Iowa State's Ashley Killeen and Katie Reichling were named to the 2006 National Fastpitch Coaches' Association (NFCA) Midwest Region Second Team for the first time in their careers on Wednesday. The junior duo helped Iowa State win 23 games, its most wins since 1999.
Killeen, a catcher from Papillion, Neb., hit a career-high .336 and broke the single-season school record with 40 RBI. She will enter next season just eight RBI shy of the career record. The second team all-Big 12 selection hit seven home runs to go along with her team-high 49 hits. Killeen proved her self as one of the most reliable catchers in the Big 12, allowing a conference low one passed ball.
Reichling, an outfielder from Johnston, Iowa, hit .298 and drove in 29 runs. She drew a team-high 23 walks and tied for the team lead with a .404 on base percentage. Her best game of the season came against South Dakota State, when she went 3-for-4 with two home runs and six RBI. She had a 10-game hitting streak and drove in more than one run in seven games.
The teams were voted upon by the head coaches in each
region that are members of the NFCA.
