The Timing was Right for Brackins

With the exodus of players leaving the Iowa State basketball program in the past few months, Cyclone fans needed a boost. On Wednesday afternoon, they got that boost when Craig Brackins committed to Iowa State. Get the details here in this CN feature on Craig Brackins.

Last season, Craig Brackins, a 6'10, 215 pound PF competed with the Boys to Men Academy in Chicago Ill. This season Brackins plans on attending the Brewster Academy in N.H. Dodie Dunson, a member of Iowa State's class of 2006 also attended Brewster.

Brackins chose Iowa State over Indiana, Pittsburg, Illinois and Oklahoma State. According to Brackins, he's happy the recruiting process has come to an end.

"The time felt right. Recruiting was getting kind of hectic. A lot of schools were coming out of nowhere. I was in the process for a couple days of just thinking and I knew that Iowa State was my school, so I wanted to get it over with," Brackins told CN.

Brackins first heard from Iowa State coach Greg McDermott years ago when the coach would send him letters while at Northern Iowa.

"When he first got the job he started recruiting me but I think I was getting letters from him when he was at Northern Iowa," Brackins said.

Two major factors led up to Brackins committing to Iowa State. The first factor was his relationship with the coaches.

"The coaching staff is a group of unbelievable people. They are really easy to get along with. Coach McDermott is a great coach. I feel confident with everything," Brackins said.

Living in big cities his entire life, Ames was different, but according to Brackins it was in a very good way. The second big factor was the people of Ames.

"When I went there I thought it was a great place. The people were really nice. I never realized how nice that people can be. Everybody was so nice and you just can't beat that," Brackins said.

Brackins is a versatile big man who can do it all, and he's not afraid to tell you that.

"I'm a big man who can play inside and outside. As soon as I get there, I'm ready to come in and make an impact as soon as possible," Brackins said.

Brackins is the first commitment of Iowa State's class of 2007 and he's a special one at that. Along with Iowa State, Brackins is ecstatic about his decision and he's looking forward to the future.

"I woke up today knowing that I'm a Cyclone. It feels really good."
