ISU Still a Leader for Spann

Iowa State is looking to get some immediate help on the defensive line by showing strong interest in JUCO DE Keith Spann. In this CN recruiting update, Spann talks about his relationship with Coach Nelson and also provides a commitment timeline.

When you look at Iowa State's current roster, it's no secret that immediate help is needed on the defensive line. Some JUCO help might be on the way in the recruiting class of 2007.

Iowa State currently appears to be the leader for Keith Spann, a 6'1 255 pound DE out of East Central Community College in Decatur, Miss.

"Right now I have a full ride offer from Iowa State in December," Spann said.

While he is receiving heavy interest from Auburn, Ohio, Baylor and Texas A&M, Iowa State is still the only school that has offered Spann who will be reporting to whichever campus he chooses in December.

"Our relationship (Spann and ISU) is very good. The coaches have been writing me and checking up on me," Spann said.

As of now, Spann's biggest draw to Iowa State appears to be defensive line coach Mike Nelson, who Spann believes is a master motivator.

"I like his attitude. I need somebody to believe in me other than myself. I need support," Spann said.

So will Spann be making a decision soon, or will Iowa State have to wait?

"During the season I will make my decision," Spann said. "I like the Cyclones but I have to weigh my options out."

Last season Spann's team only played seven games due to Hurricane Katrina. In those seven games, Spann recorded 52 tackles, 13 of them being for a loss.
