Straight Shots From Welch Ave.

In this week's edition of Straight Shots From Welch Ave., CN's publisher takes old timers on a trip down memory lane. It's the first day of classes at Iowa State and Williams is here to bring back memories. Plus, he does a little damage control as well. Check it out right here at CN!

Who's Dreading Class? Not Me…For Now

Cyclones of all generations, today marks a special day that only comes once a year. It's a day where everybody, even Brent Blum goes to class. It's a day when you are assigned no homework (in all sane classes) and it's a day in which every freshman girl looks like she should star in the hit MTV show Laguna BeachShort skirts and large sunglasses are the theme of the day.

Today is the first day of classes at Iowa State.

Unfortunately, as a senior, I happened to score an 8 a.m. media law class on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

How ridiculous is that?

Today doesn't only mark the first day of classes. If you're an ISU graduate, you'll know what I'm talking about here. Remember back when you were on campus? You get out of a late class and you can hear the marching band practicing the hit song Mony Mony outside of the design building? You walk by Lake Leverne and almost get mauled by a couple of ticked off swans. Do you remember that feeling you got?

I got that feeling this morning. I got that feeling not only for the pride that I have in this amazing university, but I finally felt like it was college football season. Oh get this; local bars are having special parties on the Wednesday before the Toledo Rockets come into town.

I'm not the only student feeling this. The players officially begin "practice" today. Professors are back from long breaks and "Tuba" is in the house.

Everybody can feel it. It's here and I'm damn proud to be a Clone today.

I'm freshly moved to Welch Ave. For those of you unfamiliar with Ames, I'll let you know now that it is the place to be in the heart of Campustown.

I got up at seven to walk to my class this morning, and instead of being angered by the alarm, I was actually ready to go. I threw on my jeans, my old Clarinda shirt, and my worn out Cyclone cap and took the 20 minute walk to class.

Instead of being tired, I felt something that I had never felt before. I felt anxious to go to school. Maybe because it's my final year at Iowa State…I don't really know. It really hit me today that this is it. This is my last year at Iowa State…quite frankly I don't want it to end.

I'm actually in the library type this thing right now…yes the library. I've spent more time on this computer today than I have this library in the past four years. But you know what; it's really not too bad.

I love this library. I love this campus (which is the 7th most beautiful in the country). Most of all, I love Iowa State.

Let's keep it real though, a week from now I will HATE going to class, this feeling can't last long.

Damage Control

In other football notes, I have received emails and calls from people today asking me about the Tyrone McKenzie rumor. A rumor has surfaced that Tyrone won't be joining the team this year and I am hear to put that to sleep right now. I'm looking forward to watching Tyrone become one of the best linebackers this school has ever seen, you just watch and wait.

Grant Garner

I had the opportunity to have a long talk with new OL commit Grant Garner yesterday and he is one of the nicest kids I've ever interviewed since being at CN. He actually called me sir. I don't get that very often. His mother was a sweet lady and Grant is jacked up about becoming a Clone. Look for a full update in a few days.
