CN Pick Five: Week Two

Every week CN's staff will pick the outcomes of five meaninful games in the world of college football. A running tab will be kept throughout the season and plan on guests pickers as well along the way. Check out this weeks picks right here at CN.

Steve Deace – CN Founder (3-2 on the season)

UNLV at Iowa State - Another high-scoring victory at home for the Cyclones.

Ohio State at Texas - All along I thought Texas would win this game, but I think the suspension in the secondary is going to hurt them.  This time it's Ohio State's turn to have a #10 at quarterback make the big play late to win the game.

Penn State at Notre Dame - I think the Nittany Lions are one of the most overrated teams in the country.  I also think we won't go a second straight week without a Brady Quinn touchdown pass.  The Irish roll by two touchdowns in this one.

Washington at Oklahoma - Bob Stoops called out his defense in public this week.  That's not good news for the Huskies.  A Pac-10 team isn't going to beat the Sooners this month, but not this one.

Iowa at Syracuse - This should be a name the score road game for the Hawkeyes.

Chris Williams – CN Publisher (5-0 on the season)

UNLV @ Iowa StateI think that UNLV will put up plenty of points in this one and will take the Clones well into the 4th quarter. Iowa State wins 38-31 in a shootout under the lights.

Ohio State @ Texas – I like Texas in this one for two reasons. One, obviously because they're at home and two, this team knows how to win the big game. Texas has the better all around team and will win this one in a 28-24 nail biter.

Penn State @ Notre Dame – I like Notre Dame to finally get that offense rolling. Irish 31 Penn State 17.

Washington @ Oklahoma – I said it last week with Cal and I'll say it again this week, Pac 10 teams not named USC just don't go into big-time college football atmospheres and pull off wins. It won't happen this week either after the Sooners roll to a 45-17 spanking.

Iowa @ Syracuse – This one will get ugly. Syracuse is one terrible football team. 35 – 6 Iowa.

Brent Blum – CN Columnist

UNLV @ Iowa State - Iowa State. The good guys score early and often, while the defense continues to make strides. Expect a big day from RJ Sumrall. He and Juice Johnson will score their first career TDs. Cyclones 40 UNLV 24.

Ohio State @ Texas - Ohio State. I don't trust Colt McCoy in this spot. The Buckeyes have too much weaponry for the Longhorns to handle. Ohio State 24 Texas 17

Penn State @ Notre Dame - Notre Dame. Anthony Morelli will struggle mightily under the spotlight. My only question is what team Beano Cook will "double-chin" kiss after the game is through? Notre Dame 27 Penn State 17

Washington @ Oklahoma - Oklahoma. OU challenged A-Pete to be more assertive this week. Scary thought. The Heisman talk picks up some major pace as Adrian goes for 225+. Watch out. Oklahoma 42 Washington 17.

Iowa @ Syracuse - Iowa. Yawn. I feel sorry for the 37% of national households that will be treated to this glorified nap. Iowa 31 Syracuse 10.

Luke Vander Sanden – CN Ambassador/Former ISU Team Captain (4-1 on the season)

UNLV @ Iowa State - ISU...This game will be a game for the Cyclones to prove to themselves, that they are either the real deal, or there will be some growing pains.  Look for Meyer and Blythe to put on a parade, as well as Stevie Hicks to run wild.  Defensively, look for Rocky Hinds to place the ball all over the field.  If the defense can't stop could be a track meet!

Ohio State @ Texas - OSU…I look for OSU to put a statement to the #1 ranking in front of their name.   I think this will be a close game, but in the end, I believe OSU will execute and make more plays.

Penn State @ Notre Dame - Notre Dame.  After seeing last week's game, I promise you there were a lot of mistakes that needed attention and got corrected this past week.  I look for Charlie Weis' offense to really produce this week.

Washington @ OklahomaOklahoma…Bob Stoops not happy with performance = Stellar performance the following week and a good luck to their opponent.  Sooner coaches and Sooner fans weren't happy with the performance against UAB.  I look for this to be a parade for the Sooners.

Iowa @ SyracuseIowa…Sure Iowa is playing on the road, but it is still Ferentz's same team...Year in and year out, the put together a club that makes January bowls.  The only concern on Iowa is their young offensive line.  Look for Iowa to win by @ least two touchdowns.

Jack Whitver – CN Ambassador/Former ISU Team Captain (5-0 on the season)

UNLV @ Iowa State - ISU goes to 2-0 with a 38-24 win

Ohio State @ Texas - Ohio St becomes national title frontrunner with a 24-17 victory

Penn State @ Notre Dame - Notre Dame squeaks by in their home opener 17-13

Washington @ Oklahoma - Oklahoma crushes Washington 42-14

Iowa @ Syracuse - Iowa cruises in their final tune up before the big game 31-7

3rd (T) – Blum & Vander Sanden @ 4-1
