Iowa Post Game: Jackson and Moorehead

In Iowa State's 27-17 loss to Iowa on Saturday, the young Cyclone defense faced their first hostile environment on the road. Find out what two senior leaders, DeAndre Jackson and Shawn Moorehead had to say after the game right here in this CN Q&A.

DeAndre Jackson

On losing the Cy-Hawk trophy…

When somebody is taking your trophy, it hurts. Especially in a game like this, we could have won but we know that we made some mistakes. They capitalized on it but it hurts to see them with the trophy. They deserved it, they played hard.

Q: In the last two games, your young defense has really played well.

A: Our young guys really took some tremendous strides from week one to week two. In the first half today, we played really well. In the second half, we just need to learn to finish a game.

Q: Did you guys (defense) gain some confidence today even though you lost?

A: Yeah, we gained a lot of confidence. The guys got their feet wet with a close game and made some big strides in the second game. There's a lot of confidence but we just need to keep getting better every day.

Q: Your next five games might possibly be the toughest in the country, talk about that and how you guys have to get over this loss.

A: We've just got to overcome this loss. We've got to go back and watch film, learn from our mistakes. They (Texas) are the defending national champions and the game is in their house.

Shawn Moorehead

On the loss…

Being a senior, it's kind of a hard way to go out, losing your last IowaIowa State game especially being from Iowa. It was one of the toughest losses in the series that I've been a part of.

Q: From a defensive perspective, were you ok with going for it on fourth down in that situation?

A: I have all the confidence in the world in our offense. If they thought that they could get it, I was behind them 100%. I thought that they would get the first down.
