Every week CN's staff will pick the outcomes of five meaninful games in the world of college football. A running tab will be kept throughout the season and plan on guests pickers as well along the way. Check out this weeks picks right here at CN.
Steve Deace – CN Founder (16-4 on
- Although I suspect the Panters will rack up some passing yardage on ISU's
defense, the Cyclones should win going away 35-10.
State over Iowa -
Hawkeyes will use the emotion and the home crowd to get off to a fast start and
lead this game after three quarters. But then the team with the game
breakers will make the big play to win it. That team is Ohio State and Ted Ginn, who makes the big play
late to set up a 24-20 Buckeye victory.
Huskers are the better team and were 40-pointed last year. This time they
Buffaloes are still playing hard for Dan Hawkins, but the Tigers will prove to
be the better team in a 24-14 win.
Georgia Tech over Virginia Tech - The
Hokies are without two key defensive players and haven't played a team with a
pulse yet. The Yellow jacket have been one of college football's better
road teams as of late, and they get another big road win, 21-20.

(17-3 on the season)
UNI @ Iowa State –
I've been vocal
about this and I'll stick to it with my pick. Iowa State shouldn't have any problem with UNI.
The Clones win this one big, but UNI's passing game scores some points that will
make Clone fans uneasy. Iowa State 31 UNI 17
Ohio State @ Iowa – If Iowa had a Tim Dwight or a Kalill Hill on this
team, I'd take the Hawks. They don't. I like the Buckeyes in a payback game for
the last time they went to Kinnick and got spanked. Ohio State 21
Kansas @ Nebraska – This one gets ugly. Nebraska 44 Kansas 10
Colorado @ Missouri – This Colorado team will keep
getting better and better, as much as I hate to admit it. Unfortunately for the
Buffs, they'll come up just short once again this week. Missouri 27 Colorado 21
Georgia Tech @ Virginia Tech –
showed me something last Thursday night when they were on ESPN. Virginia Tech
has played nobody and I don't think they can stop Calvin Johnson. He scores two
big TD's and the Jackets pull off the road upset 31-27.
Luke Vander Sanden – CN
Ambassador/Former ISU Team Captain (15-5 on the
Iowa State -
ISU wins this game soundly as they need and should do. We need an
explosive three phases of football to propel this team.
Ohio State @ Iowa - Yeah it is in Iowa City, and the
atmosphere the Hawks fans give is incredible. Look for Ohio State to win a tough game on the road
close, or look for the Hawks to get splattered. Ohio State wins big, or wins a close
Kansas @ Nebraska - Be sure that
Callahan knows what happened last year in these two teams' matchup. Look
to put a hurtin on Mangino's ball-club. If Kansas doesn't keep this one close early, it
could get ugly. Nebraska wins.
Colorado @ Missouri - Wow! Did Colorado open some eyes
last week in a near upset. I still like what I see out of Missouri, and I am going
to pick the Tigers. Colorado's Dan Hawkins still hasn't found the
chemistry in his team. This will be a process for
Georgia Tech @ Virginia Tech - I like G.
Tech to win this game in a close game. Georgia Tech wins by
Jack Whitver – CN Ambassador (16-4
on the season)
UNI @ Iowa State -
ISU finds its
offense, shuts down UNI and wins 34-10
Ohio State @ Iowa - OSU out to prove a point and wins
in Kinnick, 27-13
Kansas @ Nebraska -
Nebraska revenges last season's
embarrassment, wins big 34-17
Colorado @ Missouri -
Colorado pulls off big upset, begins to
right their ship, 20-17
Georgia Tech @ Virginia Tech -
Virginia Tech is
too much at home, squeaks by the Yellow Jackets, 24-21
Brent Blum – CN Columnist (17-3 on
UNI @ Iowa State
- Iowa State. I really think Iowa State explodes on offense on Saturday.
They are definitely not taking UNI lightly. I think the boys are treating this
as a game that they can make a statement. And I believe they
Cyclones 45 UNI
Ohio State @ Iowa - Ohio State. Adam "Pass Interference" Shada has
zero chance to stay in the same area code of Ted Ginn. Ohio State should have zero trouble moving the
ball through the air. It will take a monster game from Tate to keep this close.
Bucks 31 Iowa
Kansas @ Nebraska - Nebraska. Kansas once again has quarterback issues.
Mangino is having a Wendy's or Arby's like choice between Adam Barmann and Kerry
Meier. Only in this case, it's a lose-lose situation. Huskers roll. Nebraska 35 Kansas 7
Colorado @ Missouri- Don't underestimate the Gary
Pinkel factor of screwing up a great season. Fortunately for Mizzou, Pinkslipel
will be a non-factor in this yawner. The Pinkel implosion is yet to come. Mizzou
Georgia Tech @ Virginia
Tech- I know GT's
Calvin Johnson is good, but ESPN is giving him T.O. like hype. And we all know
how that turned out this past week.
Virginia Tech does just enough to
stifle CJ and the Bees. Virginia Tech 24
