Derrek Blackwell, a 6-foot-2, 225-pound, running back from Galesburg, Illinois is a prospect to watch in 2002. Blackwell has a few scholarship offers under his belt.
"Iowa was the first school to offer me a scholarship." Blackwell said. "Iowa State and Northern Iowa have also offered but I think they offered because Iowa did.
"My favorites are Iowa, Iowa State, Michigan, Illinois and really any school that loves to run the ball and play hard-nosed football."
Blackwell will be four-year varsity running back for Galesburg. As a freshman, he rushed for 643 yards. His sophomore and junior years he's had to fight the injury bug. A sprained ankle as a sophomore and a broken foot as a junior limited his playing time.
We just recently received film on Derek Blackwell and it's easy to see why he's been offered early scholarships even though he's seen limited playing time the past two seasons.
Blackwell is a tough running back that stays low and doesn't give the defender much to hit. He doesn't have the home run speed but he's tough to bring down and he'll deliver a big hit as well. Look for a big 2002 from Derrek Blackwell.
Blackwell could play on either side of the ball at the next level.
