Paulson Twins Itching to Start Season

Media day was full of excitement in anticipation of a new season and a fresh start for the Iowa State wrestling team. After a disappointing 2005-06 campaign with marks of 11-7 and a 14th-place finish in the NCAA tournament, a change was needed and the team knew that. As always, CN was there to cover it.

"After that season when we didn't get where we wanted to be we decided that this summer we were going to put in the work so that we can get the results we want," Trent Paulson told CN on Monday.

"That loss in the NCAAs left a bad feeling in my stomach and I didn't even rest after that. I trained all summer."

As Trent and Travis Paulson went during the off-season, so went the rest of the team. This last summer was a little different as most of the team stuck around for camps and different summer tournaments.

"After the season (in prior years) I'd go in the wrestling room and we'd have seven people here. When Cael was here he made everyone be in here at least four days a week during the off season. We kind of built a little team unity…. we are all working together… and it's just been great," said Travis Paulson.

This team seems committed and ready to forget about how the returning guys finished last year. That will be fueled by a great amount of young talent in this year's lineup. Five to six freshman or red-shirt freshman will be in the 2006-07 Cyclone lineup but they will not be lacking in talent.

Cyclone fans will now get to see the number one recruiting class of 2005 that Bobby Douglas brought in.
