A New Name on the List

On Tuesday night's 6 o'clock newscast, the Voice of the Cyclones John Walters reported that Central Michigan University head football coach Brian Kelly has been contacted by Iowa State and also stated that Kelly has some interest in the job. Who is Brian Kelly? Find out here.

So who is this new candidate on the Iowa State coaching short list? Here's a brief profile.

  • Kelly first began making a name for himself in the division two ranks at Grand Valley State where he won two national championships in 2002 and 2003. In 2001, his team went 13-1 and lost in the championship game. In his last three seasons at Grand Valley State, Kelly's teams went a combined 41-2.

  • Kelly is a two-time division two Coach of the Year (02 & 03).

  • In his first season at Central Michigan, Kelly led his team to a 4-7 record. It is notable that two of those losses were by five points or less.

  • In his second season at CMU, Kelly led the Chippewas to their first winning season since 1998 when they went 6-5.

  • Kelly is currently in his third season at CMU and his team is on fire as they're in the middle of a five game winning streak. Right now, CMU is 7-3 and are the favorite in their next two games. The three losses came to Boston College, Michigan and Kentucky.

  • CMU is currently 31st in the nation in total offense and 76th in total defense.
