Notebook: Football Recruiting Heats Up

It appears that the first thing new Iowa State head coach Gene Chizik is addressing in recruiting is Iowa State's play in the trenches. Iowa State will host three JUCO prospects this weekend. Find out who right here in this football recruiting notebook piece.

The first is Joe McMahon, who recently became the first commit in the Gene Chizik era. McMahon is a 6'4, 290 pound offensive lineman out of Joliet Junior Community College in Joliet, Ill.

The other offensive lineman making his visit is Alex Alverez, a 6'3, 290 pound lineman out of Kilgore Junior Community College in Kilgore, Tex.

On the defensive side of the ball, Mike Tate, a 6'5, 270 pound defensive end out of Blinn Junior Community College in Breham, Tex.

In one other recruiting note from the class of 2007, CN has learned that Alex Sandvig out of Valley HS in Des Moines is recovering well from his recently torn ACL. All rumors of Sandvig's injury being career ending are false and he will be fully recovered by the time he gets to Iowa State in the spring.
