Wesley Johnson Big 12 Rookie of the Week

Wesley Johnson's stellar freshman campaign continues, and he continues to earn rave reviews for his performance from his peers for it.

Iowa State freshman forward Wesley Johnson claimed his second Big 12 honor of the season, earning Big 12 Rookie of the Week accolades for games played on Jan. 1-7, announced today by the Big 12 office. Johnson earned Big 12 Player of the Week honors on Dec. 18.

Johnson, a native of Corsicana, Texas, was outstanding in ISU's Big 12 opener, scoring the final four points of the game in an 11-second span, including a putback with 1.6 seconds remaining to give the Cyclones a 66-65 win at Missouri

The forward had 12 of his 14 points in the second half, helping ISU overcome a 16-point second half deficit.  Johnson tallied eight of Iowa State's final 13 points in the last four and a half minutes of the contest and connected on 5-of-8 shots after halftime.  Overall, he was 5-of-11 (.455) from the field, grabbing a career-high 13 rebounds with two steals. 

He is averaging 10.6 rebounds over his last eight games and is second in the Big 12 in double-doubles with seven.
