James Johnson Update

David Garvin of Heartland Recruiting and TheInsiders gives Cyclone Nation an update on Port Arthur (Texas) Jefferson running back James Johnson. The 5-foot-11, 185-pounder is one of a select few tailbacks the Cyclones are taking a hard look at for the '03 class.

"I currently have offers from LSU, SMU, Texas Tech, Iowa, Iowa State, Baylor and Boston College," Johnson told HR on Monday night. "But my top three are LSU, Iowa State and Michigan State."

Does he has a favorite from among those three?

"LSU," he replied. "My family is originally from Baton Rouge."

Johnson, who is five-foot-eleven, 185 lbs and runs a 4.5 forty, rushed for 1,388 yards on 214 carries with 16 touchdowns for Port Arthur Jefferson in 2001, but only managed 40 yards on four carries in Memorial's 43-13 loss to Smithson Valley on August 30th.

"We're still trying to get on the same page," Johnson said. "We're all together now (Port Arthur Jefferson, Lincoln and Austin schools) and we tried to throw the ball a lot in the first game. We'll be playing (Houston) Lamar in the Astrodome on Saturday. I feel we'll be more prepared for them."
