Carter Bykowski Talks Decision

Carter Bykowski, a huge tight end from Eden Prairie, (Minn.), ended his recruitment when giving his verbal pledge to Iowa State. Bykowski talks about his decision...

"I committed to Iowa State," said Carter Bykowski. "I was at my house when I gave them a call. I called coach [Gene] Chizik. I then called my recruiting coach, Jeff Koonz and my position coach, coach [Scott] Fountain.

"They were all really excited about my decision. They couldn't be happier to have me on board. They told me it was a great move on my part, and I will fit in well with their system."

When asked the reasons for his commitment Bykowski said, "There were a number of reasons why I committed. It's pretty close to my home, it's a place I wanted to play since I was a kid, and they wanted me. They really liked me at camp, and that's when they offered."

"I went for unofficial visit last week. I saw academic and athletic facilities. I liked all of them. I know a lot of people who go there and who have been there. They have said a lot of good things about it."

Bykowski stands 6-7, 245-pounds and skilled at his position at both receiving and blocking.

"They recruited me to play tight end. I don't remember any of my stats from last year because I was used as a blocking tight end. This year it will be more receiving," he said.

"I can definitely catch the ball. We just didn't throw to me that much because we had a really good receiver. He was our go-to guy. I am a good blocker as well. I have been trying to improve my speed, weight and strength."

"Iowa State was my only offer. I had received interest from Minnesota, Wisconsin, Northwestern and Iowa. A few Ivy League schools showed interest in me as well."

The commitment looks solid as Bykowski relayed, "I will go back to Iowa State for the Iowa game. That is going to be my official visit. As of now, I am finished with my recruitment and focused on winning the state championship at Eden Prairie."
