"I committed to Iowa State," said Tracy Robertson from Houston, Texas. "I called the coaches and told them about my decision. I called coach [Jay] Rodgers, my recruiting coach. I then called coach [Gene] Chizik."
"They were real excited that I was coming up there. They said they got a pass rusher they wanted. We'll see how the rest of the recruiting process goes, but right now it's Iowa State."
Robertson has never been to Ames, but he has a big reason for choosing the Cyclones.
"I committed because of the chance I know I will be able to play early," he said. "They don't have too many guys there now. I can make an impact right away. I don't want to have to sit out. I am ready to play now."
His relationship with the coaching staff was also a selling point.
"I have talked to coach [Mike] Pelton almost two or three times a week. I talked to coach Rodgers and the defensive coordinator [Wayne Bolt] yesterday," Robertson said.
"They sent me a link on the computer for me to see a virtual tour of the campus. I have talked to coach Chizik personally, and you don't get to do that with most head coaches."
The 6-4, 233-pound defender was recruited for one position. He knows his strengths and what he hopes to improve.
"They want me to play defensive end. It's my natural position. I am a pass rusher. I will be a stronger pass rusher this season," Robertson said.
"I am trying to improve basically gaining weight and staying fast. So far it's going pretty good."
"I have never been to Iowa State before, but I am visiting during the season. Hopefully, I can get up there when they play OU or Colorado," he said.
"I think we are shooting for the Colorado game. I just know I will be up there for one of their big games. I want to see their campus on game day."
