"I committed to Iowa State," Dustin Land said. "I called coach [Gene] Chizik, but he was in a meeting. I then called coach [Wayne] Bolt. He didn't answer, so I texted him and told him I was ready to be a Cyclone."
"He responded and said they were all in a meeting, but very excited about my decision. I finally talked to coach Chizik, and he said he was ready to get me up there. He said they were glad to have me."
Land felt a strong connection with the coaching staff even though a visit to Ames has yet to occur.
"I have been talking to the coaches a lot," he said. "The quarterbacks coach [Tony Petersen], the offensive coordinator [Robert McFarland], and the whole coaching staff. They have all been great."
"I have talked to the head coach [Chizik] several times, and he never sugar-coated anything. I liked that. I felt comfortable around all of them."
The talented athlete missed half of his junior season due to injury, but still managed to record over 500 rushing yards and 400 passing yards. He was recruited by the Cyclones as an offensive player.
"They recruited me to come in and play quarterback," he said. "I think it's a good offense. They have a lot of good players especially on defense."
"I would like to come in and getting playing time by my sophomore year. I am ready to get started now. I know I am going to go in and work hard."
"I am going up there this Thursday for a visit. I will be up there for four days. I am really looking forward to it."
"I only had an offer from Iowa State. I will probably not go anywhere else. I will go up to Iowa State during the season to see a game probably for my official visit."
