Bryan Mattison Update

Chris Pool of Pool Recruiting and TheInsiders gives Cyclone Nation an update on Mishawaka (Ind.) Penn defensive end Bryan Mattison, who has been offered a scholarship from Iowa State and several other top programs.

"I have about 20 scholarship offers," said defensive end Bryan Mattison.

"I have things narrowed down to about eight schools and I've set two official visits.

"Colorado, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Washington State, Oregon, Notre Dame and Iowa State are my favorites.

"I have visits set up with Iowa (12-6) and Colorado (12-13) so far. These schools have been recruiting me the hardest.

Mattison, a 6-foot-4, 240-pounder, from Mishawaka (IN) Penn is a two-year varsity starter and he's also the son of Notre Dame football coach, Greg Mattison.

What are the chances that Bryan could end up playing for his father at Notre Dame? "We've talked about it. My dad is a great coach and I'd love to be coached by him and he'd love to coach me. There would be a lot of pressure on both of us I think."

Greg Mattison is considered one of the nations best recruiters. What advice has he given his son regarding the recruiting process?

"My dad told me to be honest and just be myself. When the schools call now, they don't try and B.S. me. They know my dad knows all the tricks of the trade.

"My dad likes all the coaches from the schools that are recruiting me now. This whole thing seems overwhelming but I've been given great advice along the way.

"My dad told me that I'll know which school is the best for me. He told me I will know as soon as I get around the guys and the coaches.

He told me that he doesn't think I will take all five of my official visits either. There's no need to take all five visits."

Mattison had 14 tackles for loss and nine sacks as a junior.
