Texas Linebacker Looking to Visit Iowa State

When someone asks Daniel Prior where he would like to play college football, he has a simple and quick response."The Big 12. It would be the best."

Daniel recently received his first Big 12 scholarship offer from Iowa State and he was very excited about it. "Coach (Gene) Chizik called me and told me that he had some good news and that hit me hard." said Prior, "He was defensive coordinator at Auburn and Texas and I just thought that if he saw something in me that it meant a lot. It definitely made me spark up."

The 6-foot-2, 212-pound inside linebacker plans on making a college choice before his senior season. He just picked up another scholarship offer from SMU which along with the others from Utah State, Iowa State, and Rice pushed his total to four.

He doesn't have a current leader but definitely will be making a visit to Iowa State. "I'm not sure whether it will be to their camp or not but I will definitely be making a visit there." said Prior, "I know they have good academics but I just want to see how I fit in with the other players. It's real important since I'd be likely living there for the next four to five years."

Daniel feels that a tough junior season at Henderson High School might have hurt his recruitment. "I don't think I got seen too much but luckily some of teams have seen my tape and saw that I can play. Our team didn't have the best season last year."

When talking to Iowa State, Prior has dealt mostly with Head Coach Gene Chizik and Assistant Coach Robert McFarland."It's been fun talking to Coach Chizik and Coach Mac (McFarland)," said Prior. "I enjoy talking to them and really feel they are great people. They are recruiting me as a middle linebacker but they said that with my speed, I might be moved to the outside."

Prior has no problem with either position."It doesn't really matter where I play as long as I got a helmet on. I just really like that their coaches feel I could make an impact in rebuilding their defense."
