Barnes Ready for Busy Summer

Ames (IA) High School star Harrison Barnes has risen to No.11 in the latest rankings for the Class of 2010 but he clearly is not satisfied. "It's really nice to see that I got recognized because it shows how much I have accomplished," said Barnes. "However, now it's motivating me to get in the top ten with the other guys."

The 6-foot-6, 200-pound forward lists scholarship offers from Iowa State, Iowa, and Indiana State but says he has no current leaders. "I haven't gotten down to the nitty gritty in regards to my recruiting yet. Right now I'm just letting my skills get better and trying to get better every day."

Harrison clearly knows what he needs to improve on this summer. "I need to develop more of a pull-up jumper and improve my handle. I also am working on moves in the post, showing more focus on defense, and refining my shot." He doesn't have to go far for outstanding tutoring when it comes to refining his shot. "My AAU coach is Jake Sullivan who was a great shooter at Iowa State," said Barnes. "He really helps me with a variety of shots such as shooting coming off a screen and helping my spot-up and pull-up jumpers."

Having grown up locally in Ames, Barnes said he has attended many Iowa State home games. "Hilton Coliseum really has a great atmosphere," said Harrison. "It's clearly one of the best student sections in the country. I've always had a lot of fun going to games there."

Harrison also stated that he is developing a solid rapport with Iowa State Head Coach Greg McDermott. "We talk frequently and he gives me tips for improving my game," said Barnes. "We have a very solid relationship."

When asked who Harrison models his game after he was quick to reply. "LeBron James. I just like the fact that he carries the same attributes as Michael Jordan who is my all-time hero. LeBron has the power to impose his will on the game."

Barnes will try to impose his will on many games this summer as he will be very busy. "I will be attending the Adidas Festival, USC Elite Camp, Nike Hoops Jamboree, and the NBA Players Camp," said Barnes.

While basketball definitely keeps Harrison busy, he showed this past weekend that he clearly has more than one talent. "I had to miss my AAU tournament", said Barnes. "I play the saxophone and we had to play for the high school commencement."
