Cyclones Looking At JC Guard

Indian Hills Community College guard Dwight Buycks has unfinished business to take care of during his sophomore season. "I'm excited how things went this year. I want next season to kick off right now," said Buycks. "We made it to the National Tournament but didn't win the championship. We had a team full of mostly freshmen so now that we know what we have to do, winning it all is the goal."

Buycks put up impressive numbers as a freshman averaging 17 points, 5 assists, and 5 rebounds. "I like playing the point guard position but really I'm a combo guard because I can both pass and score," he said.

Dwight holds no current scholarship offers but said that Iowa State, Kentucky, Indiana, Marquette, and Tennessee are the main schools that have been recruiting him. "I've talked to Iowa State Assistant Coach T.J. (Otzelberger) a lot and our relationship is good. We talk a lot and he has told me that they would love to have me there," said Buycks. "He said they're looking for a guy who can score and also play defense."

Dwight said he plans to visit Iowa State in the fall which would be his second trip to Ames. "I was there for their Elite Camp last summer," he said. "It was really nice and I liked Hilton Coliseum a lot."

Dwight also learned about Iowa State from current Cyclone Diante Garrett. "We both are from Milwaukee and he and I are real close," said Buycks. "He's not trying to pressure me or anything but he just told me that we would be a good 1-2 punch if I went there."

Dwight is currently at Indian Hills taking summer classes in order to get ahead with his school work. "It's important to me and will be with whatever school I choose," he said. "I want to make sure they have a program that will keep me focused on both basketball and my grades."

Buycks said he will likely wait until during the season to make a final decision. "It will probably be made during the season," he said. "I just want to see how everyone feels about me before I commit."
