Young Enjoys Visit to Iowa State

Olathe North (KS) High School defensive end Kevin Young arrived in Ames, Iowa for an unofficial visit with his father on Thurday and couldn't have been happier with his experience.

"It was real good. I got a really good feel for Iowa State," he said. "To be honest, I didn't expect Iowa State to be like that but I really liked everything. It was a really nice town and had a great campus also."

The 6-foot-5, 227-pound Young currently lists six scholarship offers from Iowa State, Kansas State, Illinois, Army, Air Force, and SMU. The Kansas native was asked whether distance would be a factor in his decision and he replied, "No, not at all. The way I like the school is most important and that's what will lead to where I go."

During his visit, Young got to sit down with Cyclone Head Coach Gene Chizik and came away very impressed. "He's got big-time experience and he's won a national championship," he said. "I'm sure he can continue to turn the whole program around."

Kevin also liked the fact that there might be early playing time available with the Cyclones. "They said they play the best players and that it's really up to me," said Young. "The coaches told me that there is a lot of seniors at my position on the roster so I feel like I'd have a good chance of playing by my sophomore year."

Young also got to go to the Academic Center while on his visit. "That went real well also. I plan on majoring in Civil Engineering," he said. "They have a good engineering program so we checked out the requirements. Overall, my dad and I were really happy."

Young stated that he set up an official visit to Iowa State for the Kansas game on October 4th. "I could make a decision by late summer but more likely it will be done during the fall."
