Speedy Jenkins Won't Be Quick Making Decision

Lakewood (FL) High School's Jacquez Jenkins has seen his scholarship total nearly double in just the last two weeks.

"I'm still pretty open right now," he said. "I'll take my visits in the fall and then make a decision after my season's over."

One person that has caught the attention of Jacquez is Iowa State Head Coach Gene Chizik. "Well it was really an honor to speak with him. It's great how he helped players like Mike Huff and Carlos Rogers get to the NFL," said Jenkins. "That tells me that he knows what he is doing and I would definitely feel confident playing for him."

The 6-foot-2, 181-pound Jenkins is an outstanding quarterback also but is being recruited as a defensive back. "Coach Koonz told me that Iowa State is recruiting me as a safety or cornerback. It doesn't really matter because I like them both," he said. "I feel with my speed that it helps at both positions and I also feel that I'm good at reading where the quarterback is going with the ball. I enjoy watching a lot of film in order to prepare."

Jenkins, who now has 13 scholarship offers, said he hasn't narrowed down his leaders but said there is a good chance he could be making a visit to Ames in the fall. "They are recruiting me hard and Coach Koonz came down recently to watch my 7-on-7 practice," he said. "They are looking at having me come up during the fall for one of their games and I would really like to do that."
